October 31, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has commenced a monthly cash support programme providing N50,000 to vulnerable households to cushion the impact of rising living costs.
A statement issued on Friday by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, described the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) as a presidential initiative designed to provide immediate financial assistance to millions of vulnerable Nigerians.
He said the programme was introduced in response to global food inflation and the rising cost of essential goods, which continue to put pressure on household finances across the country.
Beneficiaries to Receive N50,000 Monthly
Doro said eligible beneficiaries would receive N50,000 every month to help them meet essential needs and reduce the financial burden of rising living costs.
“Under this intervention, eligible beneficiaries will receive N50,000 monthly, providing direct assistance to help meet essential needs and ease the burden of living costs,” he said.
The minister explained that the programme would be reviewed regularly to reflect changes in the cost of living.
He added that beneficiaries would be notified directly before any adjustments were made to the intervention.
Doro said the ministry was working with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure that payments were delivered securely, promptly and transparently.
According to him, beneficiaries would receive text messages from the service providers seeking their consent before the funds were paid directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.

He advised anyone uncertain about a message relating to the programme, or approached by individuals demanding money in connection with the intervention, to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
Programme to Complement Existing Social Protection Schemes
Doro said NERSI would complement existing Federal Government social protection and economic support programmes while strengthening household resilience and economic stability.
He added that the intervention was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing the programme with dignity, transparency and accountability.
He also said further information and official updates on the intervention were available on the ministry’s website at www.fmhapr.gov.ng/nersi/.
