Senate Confirms Jamila, Olawande, Abbas As Ministers

October 04, (THEWILL) – The Senate, on Wednesday, confirmed Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim from Kwara State and Ayodele Olawande from Ondo State, as ministers.

The lawmakers also confirmed the Ministerial-nominee from Kaduna State, Balarabe Lawal Abbas.

Their confirmation brought the total number of ministers to 48. The lawmakers had on July 27, confirmed 45 ministers.

President Tinubu, in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, requested screening and confirmation of Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Olawale Olawande and Balarebe Abbas as ministers.

THEWILL recalls that President Tinubu had on Sunday, September 17, appointed Jamila and Olawande as Youth Ministers.

Jamila Ibrahim is a young medical doctor and most recently served as the President of the Progressive Young Women Forum (PYWF). She has also served as the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Olawande is a community development expert and youth leader in the governing All Progressives Congress (APC). He most recently served in the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Innovation from 2019 to 2023.

Earlier on Wednesday, Abbas, a ministerial nominee from Kaduna State, slumped during screening at plenary.

With the confirmation of Abbas as ministerial nominee, THEWILL reports that he has successfully replaced Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate-past Governor of Kaduna State, who failed security clearance in July.
