UPDATE: Senate Approves Chidoka, Abubakar As Ministers

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, July 16, (THEWILL) -The Senate Wednesday approved the appointment of the Corps Marshall, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Osita Benjamin Chidoka and a Political Science Professor at the University of Abuja, Dr Sulaiman Olanrewaju Abubakar, as Ministers of the federation.

Osita, a representative of Anambra, is expected to head the Ministry of Aviation, while Abubakar, from Kwara is expected to be assigned the National Planning Ministry.

Prior to their unanimous voice confirmation, the duo fielded questions from senators on topical issues.

President Goodluck Jonathan had forwarded their names to the Senate last week for confirmation as Ministers to fill the vacant slots for Anambra and Kwara states respectively at the federal cabinet.

The FRSC boss used the screening to clear the air on the controversial relocation of the FRSC’s training school from Jos to Enugu.

He disclosed that the agency has two training schools, one in Mubi, Adamawa State, northern Nigeria and another in Enugu, Enugu State, Southern Nigeria.

He further explained that cash constraints by the Enugu State Government forced the commission to temporarily relocate the school to Jos, adding that when the government of Enugu eventually allocated 200 hectares of land to the agency it relocated the school to the state.
On his part Dr, Sulaiman said the failure of government agencies to identify threats to security is responsible for the growth of insurgency in the country.

After their screening, Senate President David Mark urged the two young Ministers to bring to the table new ideas that will improve governance and the economy.
