June 26, (THEWILL) – With a dominant victory over Nate Maness at UFC Vegas 57, Umar Nurmagomedov, once again demonstrated why he has all the makings of a future champion.
Nurmagomedov simply outclassed Maness in the grappling exchanges during each minute of every round, showcasing his mastery of the ground game and wrestling. When the fight was done, the judges awarded unanimous decisions in favour of Nurmagomedov, who improved his career record to 15-0.
Maness made a mistake early on, placing Nurmagomedov on top of him and applying steady pressure from above while attempting to progress his position. When Maness afforded him space to manoeuvre, Nurmagomedov likewise pounded away with inside punches before dropping his elbows.
Nurmagomedov started the takedown as the second round got underway by diving low, grabbing a leg, and putting Maness to the ground. As the bout progressed, Nurmagomedov made Maness pay every time he tried to escape by demonstrating his authority even more through a powerful wrestling strike and got another takedown in the third round.
Nurmagomedov made his family happy with his victory on Saturday, and there is little doubt that he will be pursuing rated opponents sooner rather than later with future UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov in his corner.
