BEVERLY HILLS, January 20, (THEWILL)- Outgoing US president, Donald Trump, may lose his Screen Actors Guild (SAG) membership card concerning his role in the invasion of the country’s Capitol Hill by his supporters.
THEWILL had reported how many of Trump supporters attacked the Capitol Hill on January 6 during the certification of Joe Biden.
According to AP, the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) board had a meeting on Tuesday and voted “overwhelming” that the outgoing American president may have breached its membership guidelines.
Apart from the Capitol violence, Trump is also facing accusations of “sustaining a reckless campaign of misinformation aimed at discrediting and ultimately threatening the safety of journalists, many of whom are SAG-AFTRA members”.
Trump will face expulsion if a disciplinary committee set up to look into the matter found guilty of the charges against him by
According to reports, the board’s move was due to a request by Gabrielle Carteris, the guild’s president, asking for a probe of Trump for “attacking values” upheld by the union.
“Donald Trump attacked the values that this union holds most sacred — democracy, truth, respect for our fellow Americans of all races and faiths, and the sanctity of the free press,” Carteris said in a statement.
“There’s a straight line from his wanton disregard for the truth to the attacks on journalists perpetrated by his followers.”
Trump became a member of SAG in 1989 and has featured in several films and TV series like ‘The Apprentice’, ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘Home Alone 2’ and ‘Lost in New York’.
