Rotary Club Yenagoa Sunshine Donates Desks To CSS Okutukutu

October 6, (THEWILL) The Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine has donated seventy desks to Community Secondary School, Okutukutu/Etegwe, Yenagoa.

The ‘Dust to Desk Service Project’ was officially performed at the school’s premises by the District Governor of Rotary District 9141, Alabo Mightyman Aye-Dikuro.

Represented by the Assistant Governor, Rotarian Joel John, he commended the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine for the initiative, stressing that it was part of Rotary’s efforts to improve Literacy in society with over 775 million persons who are illiterate globally.

Chairman, Basic Education and Literacy Committee at Rotary District 9141, Rotarian Kune Igoni gave kudos to the Yenagoa Sunshine for the gesture, stating that plans were on, in partnership with the Bayelsa Educational Trust Fund to equip secondary schools with Electronic Library.

President of the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine, Rotarian Mabel Oki said the presentation of the desks to the school was part of the charity and service Rotary offers to make society a better place.

Providing a brief on the initiative, the Project Chair, Rotarian Ogiasa Tonari noted that it was informed by the need to contribute and solve the challenge of inadequate sitting furniture for students of the school.

District Stewardship Chairperson, Rotarian Chibueze Olikagu, asserted that Rotary is all about providing service to humanity and the community.

Receiving the desks, the Principal of Community Secondary School, Okutukutu/Etegwe, Sir Fineboy Ezekiel expressed gratitude to Rotary, stressing that there was a need for private organisations and wealthy individuals to support the government to improve education.

Chairman of the Parents/Teachers Association at CSS Okutukutu, Chief Saro Tamunu and the School’s Senior Prefect, Master Godwin Dappa were full of appreciation to the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine for the donation.

A Deputy Director in the State Ministry of Education, Mr Ikobho Clinton, thanked Rotary for its social services, urging other organisations to follow suit by complementing the government’s effort in the provision of quality education.
