April 01, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Football Federation unveiled a roster update on Monday, just four days before the 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifier clash between the Super Falcons and African champions South Africa in Abuja.
Coach Randy Waldrum has made a pivotal decision, drafting the promising Jumoke Alani as a replacement for the injured Ashleigh Plumptre. Plumptre, a standout performer during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, was forced to withdraw from the squad due to an untimely injury.
At just 18 years old, Alani is no stranger to the international stage, having been an instrumental member of the Falconets squad at the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, where she proved her abilities alongside current Super Falcons midfield dynamo Deborah Abiodun.

The youngster’s inclusion is a testament to Waldrum’s faith in her abilities, as she previously donned the Nigeria jersey in an international friendly against Japan in October 2022, featuring alongside established stars like Chiamaka Nnadozie, Christy Ucheibe, Rasheedat Ajibade, Ifeoma Onumonu, Uchenna Kanu, and Michelle Alozie.
Waldrum has assembled a formidable squad comprising three goalkeepers, six defenders, six midfielders, and seven forwards to take on the African champions, while Banyana Banyana coach, Desiree Ellis, has selected a 24-player contingent consisting of three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders, and six forwards.
