Rivers Govt Demolishes Assembly Complex Amid Impeachment Move

December 13, (THEWILL) – The Rivers State Government has commenced the demolition of the State House of Assembly building on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, amidst rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his political godfather, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

THEWILL gathered that over 10 bulldozers, excavators and other heavy-duty machines arrived at the Assembly Complex as early as 5 a.m. on Wednesday. The demolition commenced at about 7:30 a.m.

This is coming weeks after the Assembly Complex was attacked with explosives by suspected political thugs.

THEWILL also reports that the reconstruction work came amid moves by 27 House of Assembly members loyal to the immediate-past governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The 27 Assembly members, led by Mark Amaewhule, had at a session, on Monday, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
