May 26, (THEWILL) – Grayson Murray, the US professional golfer who won his second PGA Tour title in January 2024, has passed away at the age of 30. Murray withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Texas on Friday, due to an unspecified illness.
The PGA Tour confirmed Murray’s death in a statement on Saturday. “We were devastated to learn Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” said PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan. “The PGA Tour is a family, and we mourn Grayson and pray for his loved ones.”
Murray’s emotional Sony Open victory in January capped a remarkable comeback from alcohol abuse and mental health struggles. After sinking a 38-foot putt to win a playoff, he expressed hope his win could inspire others facing adversity. “If I can help one person that’s all it takes,” he said.

The Tour did not provide a cause of death for the golfer once touted for stardom from a young age. Murray had made his first cut on the Korn Ferry Tour at 16 and won three straight Junior World Championships from 2006-2008. His Sony Open triumph lifted him to a career-high world ranking of 46th.
Monahan revealed speaking to Murray’s parents, who “asked that we continue with tournament play” as that is what their son would have wanted. The PGA family mourns the tragic loss of the inspirational 30-year-old.
