Most Reverend Akinola Freed
The former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and ex Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Reverend Peter Jasper Akinola, who was earlier abducted by gunmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, has been freed, the state government said on Tuesday night.
The government said Akinola was freed by security men attached to the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, following a rescue operation.
The government further described the incident as armed robbery and refuted that it was kidnapping as previously reported in the media.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, December 24, (THEWILL) – A former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and ex Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Reverend Peter Jasper Akinola, has been kidnapped by gunmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
THEWILL gathered that Akinola was reportedly abducted alongside his driver on Tuesday afternoon at the main entrance of the building housing his foundation, the Peter Akinola Foundation Center for Youth Industrial Training, located along the Abeokuta-Lagos highway.
The police in the state confirmed his abduction to the media and urged members of the public to volunteer information that will help track his abductors and free the revered preacher.
Kidnapping for a ransom is a popular crime in Nigeria, especially in South.
