June 17, (THEWILL) – A suspected notorious kidnap gang leader who specialises in demanding money and valuables from victims through menacing phone calls, death threats or harm, Haruna Mohammed, has been arrested by operatives of the Yobe State Police Command.

Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the suspect, a 40-year-old resident of Lantewa Village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of the state, had been on the wanted list of the police over his involvement in terrorising towns, villages, and neighbouring states.

One of his victims from Siminti Village, Lantewa in Tarmuwa LGA, had reported that Mohammed demanded N3,000,000.00 with a threat to kill him and his family members.

Abdulkarim said, “Detectives from the SID, in a coordinated operation following an intensive intelligence operation on 16th May 2024 at about 1415hr, arrested Mohammed at Nangillam Village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

“The State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, reiterated that there is no hiding place for criminals either in the urban or rural areas of Yobe State.

“The CP affirmed that the Command has recorded another significant success in its quest to rid the state of criminal elements, pledging that anyone with a criminal tendency will face stiff resistance.

“He urged communities to report any form of attack, attempts, or commission of crime to the police and called for adequate support to ensure security in the state.
