December 14, (THEWILL) – The House of Representatives has stepped down a “Bill for an Act to Amend Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013 to Prohibit Cross Dressing; and for Related Matters (HB.193).”
Sponsored by Muda Lawal Umar, the bill at Second Reading was stepped down for technicalities.
While leading the debate on the bill, Umar said, “Same-sex marriage is against Nigerian culture and tradition.“
He urged the House to stop cross-dressing in Nigeria.
Ruling on the debate, Deputy Speaker of the House, Ahmed Wase, who presided over Wednesday’s plenary, advised Umar, to step down the bill as it does not capture the multi-cultural nature of the country.
