Reps Pass 2023 Supplementary Budget, Re-Allocate N5bn Yacht To Student Loan

November 02, (THEWILL) – The House of Representatives has reallocated the controversial sum of N5 billion proposed for the purchase of Yacht in the 2023 Supplementary Budget.

Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Bichi (APC, Kano), disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday, after the passage of the N2.17 trillion supplementary budget by the House.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, October 31, requested approval of the two Chambers of the National Assembly for N2.17trn Supplementary Budget for 2023.

THEWILL had reported the outrage over the Yacht since details of the N2.1 trillion supplementary budget were published.

According to the budget, N5.09 billion was allocated for the yacht. The yacht was listed under the Nigerian Navy’s proposed capital expenditure of N42.3 billion.

The Presidency on Thursday, dismissed reports that President Tinubu requested the Presidential Yacht.

In a clarification by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Tope Ajayi, said the Yacht was a request from the Nigerian Navy.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Bichi, said the committee had eliminated the item and transferred the funds to the student loan division, totalling N10 billion.
