November 28, (THEWILL) – Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has revealed he dedicated his goal against Everton on Sunday, to his recently deceased cousin. The 26-year-old scored from the penalty spot in the 3-0 home victory.
After netting his second goal this season, Rashford gave a subdued celebration. He later posted on Instagram that the goal was in memory of his late cousin, signing off with “gone but not forgotten” and a dove emoji.
The win over Everton marks United’s fifth victory in their last six English Premier League matches. This follows a difficult start to the 2023/24 campaign that saw the club lose an eye-watering number of games not seen since 1930.
There have still been some poor results mixed in, including 3-0 home defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle. In addition to those, progression from their UEFA Champions League group remains uncertain after twice blowing the lead to draw with FC Copenhagen.
Still, manager Erik ten Hag will hope this recent upturn can spark more consistent performances as the season progresses. Rashford dedicating his goal to his deceased cousin shows the human impact behind the game, which is often overlooked in the intensity of the football action.
