SAN FRANCISCO, July 29, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would not call any witness in defence of the petition by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The Nation reports that the INEC’s lawyer, Yunus Usman (SAN), announced this on Monday, July 29, at the resumption of proceedings at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).
By the court’s schedule, INEC was expected to open its defence on Monday but when the case was called, Usman said they have scrutinised the evidence by witnesses called by the petitioners and found that there was no need for it.
Meanwhile, the PDP had during its session presented 62 witnesses out of the 400 earlier billed to testify at the tribunal.
