The fintech company also stressed that it does not determine who qualifies for the Federal Government’s support, directing customers seeking clarification or assistance to contact the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) helpline.

“The ₦50,000 monthly Federal Government cash support is available only to eligible citizens. Eligible customers will see a pop-up notification on their OPay app homepage.

FG Begins N50,000 Monthly Disbursement

The development comes as the Federal Government commences disbursement of the N50,000 monthly cash support under NERSI, a presidential intervention designed to provide financial assistance to vulnerable households facing economic hardship.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, announced the commencement of the payments in a statement on October 30, explaining that qualified beneficiaries would receive N50,000 monthly to help meet essential needs and cushion the effects of rising living costs.

According to the minister, the programme will be reviewed regularly, while the ministry is partnering with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure secure and transparent delivery of the funds.

Doro explained that beneficiaries would receive an SMS requesting their consent before the money is transferred directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.

He listed the approved financial service providers and their respective USSD codes for checking eligibility as ALAT by Wema (*945*23#), MoMo PSB (*671*0#), NairaGram (*726*00#), OPay (*955*20#) and Moniepoint (*557*327#).

The minister stressed that Nigerians do not need to complete any application process, pay a fee, or register through agents to benefit from the intervention.

He also warned against fraudulent messages and individuals attempting to collect money or sensitive personal and banking information from prospective beneficiaries.

Doro urged Nigerians not to disclose their PINs or Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) to unauthorised persons and advised those uncertain about messages relating to the programme to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.

The Federal Government said the intervention is part of its efforts to provide direct financial support to vulnerable Nigerians through approved digital payment channels.
