BEVERLY HILLS, April 02, (THEWILL) – The Police say it has re-arrested the last of the suspects who escaped from custody in Lokoja the Kogi State capital last week.
The suspect, Kabiru Saidu, also known as Osama, is one of six suspects who escaped from the custody of the ‘A’ division of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Channels reports that a police source who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to journalists said that the suspect was re-arrested by detectives in Bauchi on Sunday night and taken to Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The police source confirmed that all the suspects who broke out of jail where they were being held pending their court appearance, have been re-arrested.
THEWILL recalls that Saidu and the other suspects had been arrested for various crimes and had claimed that they were being armed and funded by the Senator Dino Melaye, lawmaker representing Kogi West.
Following their escape on the eve of their arraignment, Melaye had challenged the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris to produce the escapees or face a lawsuit.
The jailbreak also led to the immediate removal of the then Commissioner of Police, Mr Ali Janga by the IGP while the state Commander of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and the Divisional Police Officer ‘A’ Division, Lokoja, were redeployed.
