January 30, (THEWILL) – Operatives of the C41 intelligence unit of the Rivers State Police Command, have neutralised John Togo, a notorious pirate, who has been a threat to drivers and passengers plying Bonny, Okirika and Port Harcourt waterways.
Rivers Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, who confirmed the incident in Port Harcourt, said Togo, an anchor of the Iceland cult group, has been involved in armed robbery, arms trafficking, sea piracy and kidnapping.
Togo has been on the wanted list of the Rivers Police Command. He was allegedly responsible for the ambush and killing of four security personnel around Degema Local Government Area coastal community on November 4, 2023.
The Rivers Police boss disclosed that the notorious sea pirate targeted commercial boats killing drivers and passengers.
Explaining how he was eventually killed, CP Disu explained that acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the C41 intelligence unit of the command and Borokiri Police Division trailed Togo to his hideout. He said Togo was killed during the gunfight with security operatives.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Command have rescued three abducted victims, Blessing Egbuna, Sonia and Chinaza.
The victims were abducted from their residence at Omuoluta Igwurita Ali in Ikwerre Local Government Area early hours of Sunday, January 28, 2024.
Disu said good Samaritans who observed when six masked gunmen, who were seen abducting the young ladies, contacted the Police and the Police mobilised and intercepted the gunmen.
He said the officers engaged the kidnappers in a shootout and they abandoned the kidnapped victims and fled.
The Commissioner commended the officers for the feat achieved and urged the public to continue cooperating with the Police to eradicate crime and criminality in the State.
