BEVERLY HILLS, March 31, (THEWILL) – Popular American singer, Pharrell Williams, says his cousin, Donovon Lynch, was killed by police during shootings at Virginia Beach over the weekend in still hazy circumstances.
THEWILL writes that eight people were injured in a series of shootings that happened after 11pm on Friday and were rushed to local hospitals.
Williams shared a picture of his 25-year-old cousin on Instagram, describing him as a “bright light.”
Williams wrote, “The loss of these lives is a tragedy beyond measure. My cousin Donovon was killed during the shootings.”
The deceased used to reside in Virginia Beach and he was an offensive lineman in the American football team for the University of Virginia’s College at Wise in 2017 and 2018 seasons. He graduated in 2019.
The singer disclosed that Virginia Beach is the “epitome of hope and tenacity” and that the community will “come out even stronger” after the shootings.
According to Police Chief, Paul Neudigate, Donovon was shot dead by a police officer in a third incident, which occurred when officers were investigating the original shootings and shots were fired nearby.
Police previously stated on Saturday that an officer “encountered an armed citizen” and fatally shot the singer’s cousin.
Investigators discovered a firearm “in the vicinity” of the shooting, with police saying that Donovon had been in possession of a handgun.
The police disclosed that the officer who killed Donovon was wearing a body camera but “for unknown reasons” it was not activated.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
