Police Debunk Trending Video Of Officers Protesting Non-Payment Of Allowances For Anambra Election

November 06, (THEWILL) – The Police Public Relations Officer in charge of the Anambra State 2021 Governorship Election, DSP Nkeiruka Nwode has debunked a purported trendng video alleging police operatives at Nnewi Area Command were protesting non-payment of election allowance by the authorities.

Nwode said such video was misleading as no such thing happened today at Nnewi Area Command of the Nigeria police.

She said she contacted the Area Commander and confirmed that there was no protest instead the officers were in very high spirits and ready for deployment to election duties.

She maintained that the alleged video of police officers protesting for non-payment was not true as being portrayed in the clip and should be disregarded forthwith.

According to her, a careful study of the said video clip shows a group of personnel in high spirit awaiting deployment for the election, adding that the Police was committed to protecting sanity of the electoral process in Anambra state.

Nwode said about 80% of the police officers have received their allowances; that those who have not received theirs may be due to issues associated with their banks.

She said, ”There is nothing like that and like I said about 80% of them have received their allowances. If there is any of them who has not received, maybe due to technical problems with their bank accounts.

“But I believe it will be rectified but about 80% of them have been paid their allowances. So I disagree and there is nothing like protest over non-payment of election allowances.”.

Also, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, DCP Aderemi Adeoye said: “The alleged video of police officers protesting for non – payment is not true as portrayed in the clip.

“A careful study of the video shows a group of personnel in high spirit awaiting deployment for the election chanting victory songs.

“The Police Command remains focused and committed to protecting the sanity of the electoral process in Anambra state.”

Meanwhile, the leader of police operations in Anambra, DIG Zaki Ahmed had told journalists in a press conference that it is the first time policemen were paid their full allowances for election duty before commencement of operations.

THEWILL gathered that police officers for the Anambra election submitted their bank details and their IPPIS for their payment, and it is being handled by the federal government and not the police.
