Police Arrest 89 Suspects For Various Crimes In Kano

September 30, (THEWILL) – As part of efforts to check criminal activities in Kano State, the State Police Command has arrested 89 suspects for committing various offences in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, disclosed this on Monday while addressing a news conference at the Command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

Dogo said the offences committed by the suspects included kidnapping, human trafficking, armed robbery, drug peddling and forgery.

He said the arrests were made at various locations in the state from September 12 to 30, adding that 53 of the suspects had been charged to court, while 36 are under investigation.

Represented by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Commissioner said dangerous weapons were recovered from the suspects, including one Dane Gun, two toy guns, 21 cutlasses and 12 sharp knives.

Similarly, he said one motor vehicle, 11 motorcycles, four tricycles, 538 bottles of Bacardin Syrup, a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, four sachets of Diazepam Tablets, one master key, two air conditioners and one 250W solar panel, among other items, were recovered from the suspects.

“The Command will continue to adapt these strategies to address and surmount any likely emerging security challenges. As we celebrate these successes, we acknowledge that there is still much work to be done.

“Therefore, the Command will remain committed to its constitutional mandate of providing effective and efficient policing services to the people of Kano State in line with the vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police,” Dogo added.
