September 23, (THEWILL) – The National Chairman of the PAP (Third Phase), Gen. Elaye Slaboh, has expressed his immense gratitude to the former president of Nigeria and a Niger Delta Statesman, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Chief Sir Dennis Otuaro (PhD), and the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku (PhD), for their joint and relentless efforts to ensuring the completion of the East-West highway, which has been in a terrible state since 2022, following the event of the flood disaster which ravaged the Niger Delta.
In his statement, he described the completed road as a key achievement of the Tinubu-led administration, as it addresses a major concern of the Niger Deltans and other commuters plying the ever-busy road, which is contributing maximally to the socio-economic development of the country.
He said, “Today, we are very glad to see the East-West Road in good condition again since 2022, this is a very significant step taken by the Federal Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to address an issue of grave concern for the Niger Deltans and road users who conduct their businesses between Bayelsa, Rivers State and other neighbouring States.
It is a great relief to us and we are glad to welcome it, because since 2023, we have lost scores of souls to road accidents, kidnapping and incessant armed robbery attacks by criminals who operate within the damaged portions of the road, in fact, the East-West road suddenly turned into the most insecure part of the Niger Delta and has consistently put commuters and other road users in rising fears, so we are very grateful to the Federal Government, and our fathers Dr Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Sir Dennis B. Otuaro PhD, and Dr Samuel Ogbuku, for their individual and joint efforts and for standing in the gap to ensure this project is completed, we are grateful and we look forward to more from you as there are still other unfinished projects within the region that needs urgent attention and action.”
