October 07, (THEWILL) – A goalless draw at Selhurst Park saw Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest each take a point from their English Premier League clash on Saturday. The match was Palace manager Roy Hodgson’s 400th at the helm in the top flight, but injuries overshadowed the occasion.
With Taiwo Awoniyi absent through injury, the visitors came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half when Morgan Gibbs-White clipped the post. Jean-Philippe Mateta then narrowly missed giving Palace the lead after the break.
Palace were already dealing with an injury crisis before the match, and their problems deepened as Jeffrey Schlupp and Jairo Riedewald were forced off either side of halftime. Youngster Jesurun Rak-Sakyi impressed though in his fourth appearance this season.
Forest worked themselves into dangerous areas early on, but Palace responded in kind with chances of their own. Gibbs-White should have opened the scoring when he volleyed against the post midway through the first period.
Both sides struggled to create clear openings in the second half until Mateta almost snatched a late winner before chances went begging for Jordan Ayew and substitute Gonzalo Montiel. In the end, neither could find the breakthrough and the points were shared.
