August 15, (THEWILL) — Winners have begun to emerge across polling units and local government areas as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rolls out results from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election on its Result Viewing (IReV) portal, signalling the commencement of the official collation process.

Checks by THEWILL on the IReV portal at 4:03 p.m. on Saturday showed that 404 polling unit results had been uploaded out of the expected 3,763 polling units, representing 10.68 per cent of the total results expected across the state.

The keenly contested election features incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, who is seeking a second term, against Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other candidates.

As results continue to stream in, voters, political parties and election observers are closely monitoring the IReV portal, which INEC introduced to enhance transparency by allowing members of the public to view polling unit results in real time.

The commission’s Result Statistics dashboard continued to update as fresh results were uploaded, with users able to refresh the portal to monitor the latest figures as the collation process progresses.

Although uploads remained at an early stage as of press time, the pace is expected to increase as results from ward and local government collation centres are transmitted to the portal before the final declaration of the election outcome.

The Osun governorship poll has drawn nationwide attention following weeks of intense political campaigns, allegations and counter-allegations among the major contenders, as well as heightened security deployment across the state.

With polling concluded, attention has shifted to the collation centres where INEC officials will aggregate results from the polling units before announcing the official winner in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

As more local government results emerge, the contest is expected to become clearer, with political parties and their supporters closely comparing figures uploaded on the IReV portal with those announced at the various collation centres.
