June 04, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s talented trio of Udodi Onwuzurike, Godson Brume, and Alaba Akintola, are set to compete head-to-head in a thrilling race at the upcoming NCAA Championships.
The championship is scheduled to be held at the esteemed University of Texas, Austin, from June 7 to 10. These Nigerian speedsters will find themselves battling it out in the same semi-final heat, vying for a coveted spot in the final.
Semifinal 3 will witness Onwuzurike, who boasts the fastest time of 9.92 seconds recorded just two weeks ago at the West Preliminaries, as the leading contender. Brume follows closely with the second-fastest time of a wind-assisted 9.94 seconds, achieved at the East Preliminaries, where he finished ahead of Akintola, clocking an impressive time of 10.08 seconds to secure qualification.
The stakes are high as all three athletes aim to clinch the top two automatic qualifying spots for the final, a race akin to the intensity of the Nigerian Trials. Nevertheless, the formidable trio will face fierce competition from athletes such as Brandon Hicklin (9.96s), Rodney Heath (9.99s), Micah Williams (10.04s), Shawn Maswanganyi (10.05s), and Nolton Shelvin (10.13s).
Their exceptional talents will be on full display as they strive to outshine one another and secure their place in the final. Also, semifinal 2 will see Favour Ashe and Karlington Anunagba go head-to-head with their formidable adversary, Terrence Jones, adding an extra layer of excitement to the championships.
