One Year In Office: Senator Hanga Lists Achievements, Pledges To Do More

May 16, (THEWILL)- The Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Rufa’i Hanga, on Thursday, said he paid N45 million registration fees for 200 indigent students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) who hailed from his senatorial district.

Hanga, who disclosed this while reeling out his achievements in office within one year and his future plans at a news conference in Kano, said he also awarded scholarships to over 200 students from the area who are studying at the Kano State Polytechnic.

He also stated that he distributed free JAMB scratch cards to 1,135 students and about 10,000 books and other learning materials to primary school pupils in the zone during the period.

“I have also empowered 1,116 women across the 15 local government areas of Kano Central with a capital of N50,000 each to enable them to start small businesses which will enhance their economic status.

“This is in addition to free medical outreach for treatment of people for various diseases, which I sponsored across the 15 local government areas and 172 wards, as well as the repairs of countless boreholes to put an end to water scarcity, all in the Kano Central Senatorial District,” he said.

Hanga further disclosed that he built an Islamiyya school at Gobirawa Ward in Dala Local Government Area and donated a plot of land to the Maikalwa community of Kumbotso Local Government Area to enable the people to expand the size of their mosque.

He also said he distributed thousands of bags of millet, maize, rice and other food items as palliatives to the people of the zone.

“I have also provided permanent and pensionable federal government employment offers for the people of Kano Central, which included those of the Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as the CBN and NNPC,” the lawmaker said.

Speaking further, Hanga disclosed that he plans to execute more projects for the benefit of the people of the senatorial district, including the construction of a women training centre in Dala Local Government Area, construction of Zaria road to Garin Babba in Garin Mallam Local Government Area, and the provision of educational materials and uniforms for Islamiyya school students across the zone.

In the coming years, the lawmaker also said he planned to, among other dividends of democracy, supply motorcycles, install solar-powered street lights, construct a road from Ungoggo to Minjibir, and train youths and women of the zone in fish processing and preservation.

“I also plan to construct the Layin Makabarta road in Kumbotso/Nasarawa Local Governments, supply instructional materials across the 15 local government and 172 wards in Kano Central, purchase and supply bicycles to primary school pupils, as well as purchase and distribute transformers to some communities in the zone,” the Senator added.
