December 23, (THEWILL) – Lionel Messi has been made an offer from Ahmed Al Barwani, a member of the Omani parliament, of $1 million in exchange for the bisht that Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, gave him after his team defeated France at the finals on Sunday, in Doha.
In Arabic, the bisht is a ceremonial robe that is typically worn during weddings and other special events and THEWILL recalls that as the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner prepared to receive the prestigious trophy, the Emir of Qatar presented him with the bisht and draped it across his shoulders, helping him put his hands through the openings.
Al Barwani took to Twitter to post his offer to Messi. He wrote: “My friend Messi, I congratulate you on winning the World Cup. (the Emir of Qatar) dazzled me as he placed a bisht, a symbol of magnanimity and wisdom, over your shoulders. I’m offering you a million dollars to give me that bisht.”
Messi is yet to respond to the offer and it is as yet uncertain if the mercurial Argentine has seen it yet, especially in the ecstatic state that he, his victorious teammates and countrymen and women are presently occupied.
After a 3-3 draw in a thrilling 120 minutes of play, Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties to dethrone France as world champions. Mbappe scored a hat-trick for Argentina, while fellow Paris Saint-Germain player, Lionel Messi, scored a brace. Angel Di Maria added the other goal for the South American champions.
