November 15, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation into the incident involving a ValueJet CRJ 900 Bombardier aircraft at the Port Harcourt International Airport.

THEWILL reports that the aircraft with registration number 5N-BXR, which had  62 passengers and five flight crew members, slipped off the runway on Tuesday, when it landed at about 15.32 hours at the Port Harcourt International Airport.

Reacting to the incident in a statement on  Wednesday, the NSIB Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection,  James Odaudu, said, “The Bureau has commenced the process of unravelling the immediate and remote causes of the incidence, with our Investigators already at the scene.

“The aircraft with 62 passengers and 5 crew upon landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport from Lagos overshot the runway at runway 03.

“There was no injury or fatality, as all the passengers and crew members were safely evacuated and no damage to the aircraft was reported.”

While urging the public and the media to avoid speculations about the likely causes, the Bureau also appealed that the privacy of those on board be respected.
