January 03, (THEWILL) – The Nasarawa State Police Command has said no ransom was paid to secure the release of Safiyanu Isa Andaha, the Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, from his abductors.

A statement issued on Wednesday, by the Spokesperson for the Command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said Andaha was released as a result of sustained pressure applied on the kidnappers by security operatives.

Andara and his political godfather, Adamu Umar Tanko, popularly known as Custom, were kidnapped on Monday night, by gunmen at Ningo village along Andaha-Akwanga Road.

A family source told newsmen on Tuesday, that negotiations were ongoing between the family and the kidnappers, who demanded N10m ransom for their release.

However, a report by The Nation, on Tuesday night, said the N10m was paid to the kidnappers before Andaha and Custom were released.

However, DSP Nansel clarified that the kidnappers were compelled to release the victims due to continued and intensified pressure applied by security operatives.

He further stated that the command’s anti-kidnapping unit and Akwanga Divisional Patrol team, were dispatched to Andaha village to transport the kidnapped victims for medical examinations.
