Nigeria’s U-18 Team Qualifies For IHF Intercontinental Championship

January 21, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s national Under-18 male handball team has qualified for the International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Intercontinental Championship after defeating their Guinean counterpart 37-36 in their final match on Friday.
The game, which took place at the Nicole Oba Gymnasium in Brazzaville, Congo, was closely contested, with the teams level at 17-17 after the first half. However, the Nigerian side was able to gain a one-point lead and secure the victory, maintaining their 100% record from the Africa Zone 3 tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
The victory was not replicated by the country’s other age-range team as the Under-20 team did not advance despite defeating the hosts Congo 37-18 on Friday. In their first match, they lost to Guinea 26-28 in their first game, defeated Madagascar 51-30 in their second and beat Zimbabwe 50-19 in their third game.
However, because they finished with the same points as Guinea in the standings, Guinea advanced to the Championship instead based on the head-to-head rule.
