Kelechi Iheanacho was the star performer in Europe’s major league from a Nigerian perspective at the weekend.

Iheanacho scored and provided an assist in the Manchester derby as City beat United 2-1 at Old Trafford.

England (Premier League)

Kelechi Iheanacho was Manchester City’s hero in the Manchester derby as he scored and provided an assist in the Citizens’ 2-1 win over their bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Iheanacho only started the match because City’s Argentinean striker Sergio Aguero was suspended.

The 19-year-old grabbed his chance in a lively display capped with the winner in the high stakes contest.

Alex Iwobi made a successful return from injury, replacing England international Theo Walcott in the 75th minute of Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Southampton at the Emirates Stadium.

The goal-drought of Odion Ighalo was finally broken as the Super Eagles attacker netted in Watford’s impressive 4-2 win over West Ham United at the Olympic Stadium.

After missing a sitter moments earlier, Ighalo recovered nicely and went on to provide the assist for Watford’s fourth goal of the day, emphatically finished off by Jose Holebas on 63 minutes.

Ahmed Musa is yet to hit the expected heights at champions Leicester City following his big money move from Russian club CSKA Moscow.

He was a 46th minute substitute for Leicester City in their 1-4 defeat to a rampant Liverpool side at Anfield.

Victor Moses made his fourth substitute appearance of the season for Chelsea in the Blues’ controversial 2-2 draw with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Mikel John Obi was not listed by the Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte.

Germany (Bundesliga)

Leon Balogun had a weekend to forget in the Bundesliga as his FSV Mainz side surrendered a 4-1 lead to draw 4-4 with TSG Hoffenheim at OPEL ARENA (Mainz).

Balogun played all 90 minutes in the encounter.

Italy (Serie A)

Joel Obi replaced Danielle Baselli on the hour as his side Torino fell 2-1 to Atalanta at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

Obi was making his second (both as substitutes) league appearance of the season for Torino.

Spain (Primera División)

Uche Agbo played for 45 minutes before he was replaced by Artem Kravets in Granada’s 2-1 loss to Eibar at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.

France (Ligue 1)

Vincent Enyeama had a horrific day in the office as he conceded four goals in Lille OSC’s 4-1 defeat to AS Monaco at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Dickson Nwakaeme was a 70th minute substitute for Angers in their 3-1 win over Dijon at Stade Jean Bouin.

The Netherlands (Eredivisie)

Fred Friday continues his professional football education at pace in the Eredivisie as he played all 90 minutes for AZAlkmaar in the 2-0 win over Willem II at AFAS Stadion.

Friday provided the assist for AZ’s second goal scored by Levi Garcia in the first minute of second half added time.

Bartholomew Ogbeche was a second half substitute for Willem II.

Taiwo Awoniyi was on for 72 minutes for NEC Nijmegen in the 0-4 loss to PSV Eindhoven at Goffertstadion.

Abduljelil Ajagun played all 90 minutes for Roda JC in the 0-2 defeat to Go Ahead Eagles at De Adelaarshorst.

Turkey (Süper Lig)

Emem Eduok made his debut for Kasimpasa, replacing Tunay Torun in the 83rd minute, but his side suffered a 3-1 defeat to the leaders Istanbul Basakshir at Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadyumu.

Isaac Promise came on for the final 13 minutes for Karabükspor in the 3-1 defeat to Besiktas at Vodafone Arena.

Raheem Lawal was an unused substitute for Osmanlispor in their 2-0 win over Trabzonspor at Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadyumu.

Aminu Umar played for 86 minutes for Osmanlispor, while Ogenyi Onazi played all 90 minutes for the vanquished side.

Godfrey Oboabona and Iyayi Believe Atiemwen started for Caykur Rizespor in the club’s 1-0 win over Akhisar Belediyespor at Yeni Rize Sehir Stadi.

Atiemwen scored the game’s only goal in the 49th minute.

Emmanuel Emenike came off the bench for Fenerbahçe in the 76th minute but failed to prevent a 1-0 loss for the club to Bursaspor at Ülker Stadyumu Fenerbahçe Sükrü Saracoglu Spor Kompleksi.

Russia (Premier League)

Jerry Mbakogu played all 90 minutes for bottom club Krylya Sovetov in their 2-1 loss to Rostov at Stadion Olimp 2.

Fegor Ogude has made the defensive midfield position his own at Amkar Perm’ and duly played from start to finish in the 1-0 win over Tom’ Tomsk at Stadion Zvezda.

Sylvester Igbonu and Kehinde Fatai were both in action for Ufa in the 0-0 draw with Krasnodar at Stadion Neftyanik.

Ezekiel Henty played for 57 minutes for Lokomotiv Moscow in the 0-1 defeat to Spartak Moscow at Otkrytiye Arena.

Portugal (Primera Liga)

Mikel Ndubuisi Agu played all 90 minutes for Vitória Setúbal in the 0-0 draw with Chaves at Estádio Municipal Eng. Manuel Branco Teixeira.

Greece (Super League)

Brown Ideye was a handful for Veria as he smashed three goals past Jonas in goal to help Olympiakos to a 6-1 victory at home in the Greek top-flight. The 27-year-old Nigerian international also provided an assist to cap a wonderful Sunday for his team.
