February 28, (THEWILL) – Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has been defeated in last Saturday’s National Assembly elections for the Abia-South Senatorial District.
Ikpeazu is one of the aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who withdrew support for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Self styled integrity group, the G-5, led by Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike, has Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Ikpeazu as members.
THEWILL reports that Benue governor, Samuel Ortom, his counterpart in Enugu, Ugwuanyi, have lost their bid to secure Senatorial seat during last Saturday’s election.
In the Abia-South Senatorial District election, Senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), polled 49,693 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chinedu Onyeizu of the Labour Party, who got 43,903 votes.
Ikpeazu came a distant third with 28,422 votes, to the shock of many who expected that his status as the incumbent governor of the state would work to his advantage.
