September 24, (THEWILL) – Nigeria produced about 306.4 million barrels of crude oil and condensate between March and August 2026 as upstream output strengthened through the first half of the period before easing slightly in July and August, according to data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.
The production figures show a sustained recovery in Nigeria’s oil sector, with combined crude and condensate output rising for four consecutive months to a peak of 1.74 million barrels per day in June.
Output Climbed Before Easing
NUPRC data showed combined crude oil and condensate production averaged 1.546 million barrels per day in March, before rising to 1.663 million barrels per day in April and 1.70 million barrels per day in May.
Output reached 1.735 million barrels per day in June, representing a fourth consecutive monthly increase and the highest combined production level recorded during the period. NUPRC said June’s strict crude oil production of 1.56 million barrels per day was Nigeria’s highest since April 2020.
Production subsequently declined to 1.67 million barrels per day in July, before edging up 0.4 per cent to 1.678 million barrels per day in August.
Based on the regulator’s monthly daily averages, March accounted for about 47.93 million barrels, April 49.89 million, May 52.70 million, June 52.06 million, July 51.77 million and August 52.02 million.
Together, the six months generated approximately 306.36 million barrels.

The improvement was driven largely by stronger crude production. In June, crude oil alone averaged 1.56 million barrels per day, while condensate contributed about 180,000 barrels per day. The crude figure represented 104 percent of Nigeria’s 1.5 million barrels per day OPEC quota.
NUPRC said Nigeria also met the quota for the third consecutive month in July, when crude production averaged 1.505 million barrels per day. In August, crude output rose slightly to 1.50019 million barrels per day, marking the fourth consecutive month of meeting the quota.
The production recovery is important for Nigeria because crude oil remains a major source of foreign exchange and government revenue.
NUPRC has attributed recent improvements to greater operational stability, improved production uptime and more efficient crude evacuation, while the sector continues to tackle pipeline disruptions, oil theft and other constraints.
Although output eased from the June peak, the March-August figures point to a stronger production base, with Nigeria maintaining crude output around or above its OPEC quota in the final months of the period.
