August 09, (THEWILL) – The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA), Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, has again, echoed the possibility of the Niger Delta region sufficiently feeding Nigeria through food production.
Prince Amgbare says the region has the capacity to produce a large amount of food through its vast agricultural potential to feed Nigeria.
The NDBDA boss made the remarks at the Niger Delta International Festival and Expo/Economic Summit at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, on Wednesday. He added that it was needless for Nigeria to import fish if the abundant potential in the Niger Delta region can be properly harnessed, as the region can feed the whole country.
“I’m here to see the possibilities of progress in the Niger Delta region, especially as it concerns agriculture,” said the MD/CEO of the NDBDA. “I can tell you that the Niger Delta can sufficiently feed Nigeria. I can tell you that there is no need to import fish to Nigeria. We can supply fish to the whole of this country”, he said.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Niger Delta, aimed to explore strategies for positively transforming the economic fortunes of the Niger Delta region.
He noted that since he assumed office as the helmsman of the NDBDA in the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Renewed Hope government, the operational word has been “Collaboration”.
He lauded the organisers of the program for the partnership and also thanked the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Engr Abubakar Momoh, for making the program a reality aimed “to seek that collaboration so that the Niger Delta can be well positioned to feed Nigeria.”
