September 21, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Exchange Limited has inducted 103 newly qualified Authorised Dealing Clerks as the Exchange steps up efforts to strengthen professionalism, market competence and ethical standards across Nigeria’s capital market.

The inductees completed the Exchange’s 15-day Automated Trading System Brokers’ Certification Programme, which covers market structure, trading procedures, regulatory compliance and the operational framework of the Nigerian capital market.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, Jude Chiemeka, the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited, congratulated the new dealing clerks and urged them to maintain high standards of integrity and professionalism as they begin their careers.

Chiemeka said the certification programme was designed to strengthen the competence, capacity and character of aspiring market professionals.

He added that the inductees had fulfilled the required academic and professional conditions and obtained the necessary regulatory approvals to practise as Authorised Dealing Clerks.

Chiemeka also stressed the importance of market integrity, noting that the ceremonial robes presented to the inductees represented their commitment to the ethical standards of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and the NGX Rulebook.

He reiterated the Exchange’s zero-tolerance position on market infractions and urged the new dealing clerks to maintain professional standards in their dealings with investors and other market participants.

According to him, the responsibility of market professionals goes beyond technical competence, requiring practitioners to uphold the rules and ethical principles that underpin investor confidence.

Rasheed Yusuf, Doyen of the Market, said the responsibilities of stockbrokers extend beyond executing transactions to include supporting capital raising, deepening market liquidity, providing investment guidance and expanding retail and diaspora participation.

Yusuf urged the inductees to use the opportunities available within the capital market to contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.

“The Exchange and the capital market constitute a platform to turn around the fortunes of the Nigerian economy, and I encourage you to leverage every channel available to create impact”, he said.

He also encouraged the new practitioners to remain proactive, continually improve their professional knowledge and stay abreast of developments in both domestic and international capital markets.

Sehinde Adenagbe, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Association of Securities Dealing Houses of Nigeria, and Fiona Ahimie, President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, similarly urged the inductees to comply strictly with market regulations and professional standards.

They stressed the responsibility of market practitioners to support investor confidence and contribute to the development of Nigeria’s securities market.

The induction adds 103 newly qualified professionals to the pool of authorised dealing clerks as NGX continues to focus on building the human and institutional capacity required to support deeper participation and a more robust Nigerian capital market.
