July 20, (THEWILL) – The Director-General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has summoned on airlines in the country for a crucial meeting, bordering on the issue of contaminated fuel.
The meeting, to be hosted by the Director-General of NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu, will be held Thursday, and all the domestic, international airline operators and aviation fuel suppliers are expected to be present.
THEWILL gathered that the meeting is not unconnected with the recently discovered contaminated fuel used by certain airline.
In a letter dated July 19, 2023, and signed by Director, Airworthiness Standards, Abatan Gbolahan, NCAA announced that the meeting would be held 10 am on Thursday, July 20, at the DGCA’s conference room, Abuja.
The meeting is expected to discuss how to prevent contamination of jet fuel with a view to preventing situations that may lead to accidents or serious incidents in the sector.
THEWILL recalls that NCAA, on the 13th July, suspended the operations of all Boeing 737 aircraft of domestic carrier, Max Air, over unsafe occurrences.
In the letter dated July 12, 2023, and marked NCAA/DG/AIR/11/16/363, NCAA stated that “the authority’s action is due to the several occurrences that involved your Boeing B737 aircraft as listed hereunder,” the letter reads.
“Loss of number 1 main landing gear (MLG) wheel during the serious incident involving a Boeing 737-400 aircraft, registration marks 5N-MBD, which occurred between take-off at Yola Airport, Adamawa State and on landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Nigeria, on May 7, 2023.
“Fuel contamination of the main fuel tanks of aircraft B737-300, registration marks; 5N-MHM, leading to the auxiliary power unit (APU) shutdown on ground at Yola Airport on July 7, 2023″.
