Mutiu Adepoju Says World Cup Debut Game Against Bulgaria Biggest Moment Of His Life

SAN FRANCISCO, June 22, (THEWILL) – Former Nigerian International and ex-Real Betis star, Mutiu Adepoju has stated that one of the biggest moments of his life as a footballer was Nigeria’s World Cup debut against Bulgaria, where he scored one of the three goals that saw the Super Eagles triumph by 3-0 against the Hristo Stoichkov captained Bulgarian team.

The former midfielder took to Twitter Monday, the 26th anniversary of that clash to reminisce.

“On this day 26 years ago, I made history with Nigeria to feature in the country’s maiden World Cup game.

“The icing on the cake was a 3-0 victory over Bulgaria. This is no doubt one of the biggest highlights of my career as a footballer and I will never forget this day.”

THEWILL recalls that the 1994 USA World Cup Super Eagles team is the most successful in the nation’s soccer history. Dutchman Clemens Westerhof managed the team.
