BEVERLY HILLS, September 17, (THEWILL) – The military has discretely retired the recalled General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Maj. Gen. Abubakar Mohammed.
The retired officer was recalled following a mutiny by some junior soldiers under his command who opened fire on him in protest over the killing of some troops by fighters of the terrorist group Boko Haram.
12 of the soldiers were convicted and sentenced to death for mutiny by a military court on Monday. Some were jailed and others discharged from the army for insubordination amongst other charges.
Sources at the Ministry of Defence told THEWILL that Major General Mohammed who was recalled to the Defence Headquarters Abuja and was not reassigned, was retired from service in August.
