SAN FRANCISCO, November 24, (THEWILL) – Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has returned to training at his English Premier League side Liverpool after being cleared to return to action having previously tested positive for coronavirus.
The 28-year-old first tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, November 13 while on international duty with Egypt. A video of him partying at his brother’s wedding in a crowd without masks soon went viral.
Liverpool’s leading scorer had previously tested positive for the virus three times before returning a negative test result on Sunday. With that, he was cleared to leave isolation and rejoin Jurgen Klopp’s injury-ravaged squad.
Salah also returned to unfamiliar surroundings as the Premier League champions had moved from their Melwood base to the new AXA training ground in the intervening period.
For a side hit by a host of injury spells in recent weeks, Salah’s return could not have come at a better time. It is a major boost to Klopp who has seen his squad lose the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold to the sidelines.
Yet, a threadbare Liverpool side eased past high-flying Leicester at Anfield on Sunday thanks to an impressive team performance and the efforts of Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota, helped along by an an own goal from Jonny Evans.
Jota has melded smoothly into life at Anfield since his £45m arrival from Wolves in the summer, and became the first Reds player to score in their first four home league games.
