BEVERLY HILLS, June 01, (THEWILL) – A former military Administrator of Lagos State and former Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd), Monday formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “on personal grounds,” a statement by his media aide, Bello Zubairu said.
The statement said, “It would be recalled that before the emergence of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Gen Marwa was the governorship candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Adamawa state and after the merger of CPC and other opposition parties to form the APC, thousands of his supporters from several local government areas of Adamawa state were technically denied the opportunity to register in the new party then.”
Although the statement did not specifically say whether Marwa will be returning to the APC, it however stated that “the retired General will be making public his next line of action in the coming days.”
The PDP, which had been the dominant party in Nigeria since 1999 when democracy was restored, lost in the last general elections to the opposition party, All Progressive Congress (APC).
