September 26, (THEWILL) – Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has insisted the club remains confident of proving its innocence as its long-running financial case with the Premier League moves towards an appeal stage.
His comments followed reports on Friday claiming that most of the allegations against City over breaches of financial rules had been proven. However, the proceedings remain ongoing and no official findings have been publicly released.
City were charged by the Premier League in February 2023 with more than 100 alleged breaches following a lengthy investigation. The allegations include claims relating to financial reporting, payments to managers and players, compliance with UEFA financial regulations and cooperation with the Premier League investigation.
The club has consistently denied wrongdoing.
Responding to the latest reports, Al Mubarak urged supporters not to draw conclusions before the process is completed.
“The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the club’s innocence is just as strong as when this began,” he said in a message to supporters.
Al Mubarak said confidentiality rules prevented him from explaining the basis for the club’s confidence.
“While some people have been quick to reach their own conclusions, and there is so much noise swirling around us, nothing has changed,” he added.
City issued a separate statement on Friday saying significant parts of the proceedings remained outstanding.
“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality,” the club said.
City also maintained that it had respected due process throughout the investigation and expected the Premier League to operate as an “independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator”.

When the charges were announced in 2023, City welcomed their consideration by an independent commission, saying it possessed evidence supporting its position and expected the dispute ultimately to be resolved.
The case is among the most consequential regulatory proceedings in English football, given the number and nature of the alleged breaches and the possible sanctions if violations are ultimately established.
Despite Friday’s reports, the final outcome remains unresolved, with further proceedings expected before the case reaches a conclusion.
Al Mubarak also sought to turn attention towards City’s upcoming fixtures, including a trip to Liverpool at Anfield and a Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad Stadium.
Until the proceedings are completed and an authoritative decision is made public, however, uncertainty over the financial case is set to continue.
