October 09, (THEWILL) – The British High Commission in Nigeria has commended Lloyd’s Register for supporting the development of future Nigerian maritime leaders through its partnership with the UK Government’s Chevening Scholarship Programme.

The partnership offers outstanding Nigerian professionals pursuing maritime-related studies the opportunity to undertake fully funded master’s degrees at leading UK universities.

British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Jonny Baxter, said the initiative would equip emerging leaders with the skills and networks needed to drive innovation, sustainability and growth in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

He described the industry as vital to trade and economic development, adding that the partnership would help prepare professionals to shape its future.

Goz Gwam, Business Director for Africa at Lloyd’s Register, said the collaboration would develop maritime leaders capable of advancing Nigeria’s and Africa’s growth while strengthening UK–Nigeria relations.

Chevening, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisations, supports one-year taught master’s degrees at UK universities for individuals with leadership potential.

Established in 1983, the programme has built a global network of more than 60,000 alumni across over 140 countries and territories.

Lloyd’s Register, founded in 1760, provides marine classification, compliance and engineering advisory services to the maritime and energy industries.
