October 13, (THEWILL) – Liverpool defender, Andrew Robertson, was forced off injured during Scotland’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Spain on Thursday evening, in what could be a major blow for both club and country.
The Scotland captain, who led his nation to five straight qualifying wins over the last seven months to put them close to reaching the European Championship, clashed with Spain goalkeeper, Unai Simon, while challenging for a ball in the penalty area. Robertson appeared to injure his right shoulder as he fell underneath Simon, immediately clutching it in pain.
Robertson was able to walk off aided by Scotland’s medical staff, but had his shirt pulled up in a makeshift sling to support his clearly painful shoulder. If he has suffered a dislocation as feared, he could face up to six weeks out of action.
That would see Robertson miss up to eight Liverpool games, including the first Merseyside derby of the season next weekend and possibly the big clash with Manchester City in late November.
In Robertson’s absence, Kostas Tsimikas is likely to deputise at left-back. The Greek international has largely been limited to cup competitions since joining Liverpool in 2020, starting just 18 Premier League games.
