BEVERLY HILLS, October 23, (THEWILL) – Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, has stated that he hasn’t been able to sleep since the Lekki shooting incident that occurred on October 20, the day soldiers opened fire on youths protesting against police brutality.
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had on Tuesday imposed a curfew on the state after hoodlums hijacked the peaceful #EndSARS campaign but the protesters refused to leave the Lekki toll gate where they have camped for at least 10 days.
Burna Boy took to his Twitter account on Friday as he joined other celebrities who have condemned the incident. “I have not slept since 20/10/2020. I close my eyes and all I see is Lekki tollgate. I’ve seen a lot of violence and death in my life but this is the one that has traumatized me,” the Grammy-nominated singer wrote.
Reacting to fans that may be concerned by the sensationalism of his statement, he added: “This is from the bottom of my soul. I did not mean any harm by what I said.
“I sincerely apologise for coming across that way. I’m already in a dark place inside. You’re my brother and I love you. Please don’t be offended. We’re all hurt, angry, afraid, and confused right now.”
