Leave Kano For Peace To Reign – Arewa Group Urges Dethroned Emir Bayero

May 26, (THEWILL)- The Arewa Social Contract Initiatives, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has asked the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, to, “as a matter of urgency and in the spirit of peace and stability,” relocate from Kano.

The group, which made the request shortly after an emergency meeting of its 19 Northern States chapters in Kano, said the sudden return of the deposed Emir, after he had vacated the palace and left the state, was planned to ignite civil unrest in Kano.

The National Chairman of the group, Sani Muhamud Darma, while reading the communique of the meeting on Saturday, said, “Aminu Ado Bayero’s actions clearly negate the tradition of the Emirate Council to which he belongs.”

Darma reminded the dethroned Emir that history would never be kind to him if he stood as the source of uncertainty and chaos which might consume many lives and property.

He said, “Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the dethroned Emir of Kano, should remember that the same person he is challenging today vacated the same seat for him and was even banished to a town far away from Kano, but he accepted what happened in good faith without causing any uproar. Why are you not replicating his actions?”

The Chairman advised Bayero to borrow a leaf from his siblings and his biological brother, the former Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Ado Bayero, who quietly left Kano without doing anything that would disturb the peace enjoyed in the state.

“Beautifully, look at the Emir of Bichi and other Emirs, nobody heard anything from them. They respectfully left and vacated their thrones without causing any havoc, that is a clear love for Kano,” he said.

The group also recalled that Governor Abba Yusuf made a campaign promise that if elected, he would change the narratives of the Kano Emirates, which he believed were unjustly distorted

“And here is the Governor fulfilling his campaign promise, no wonder Kano people are so calm and happy with the development, as you move around one will see people happily going about their normal businesses,” it added.

Our Correspondent reports that Bayero is still holding sway at the Gidan Sarkin Nasarawa Royal Guest House located on the outskirts of the old Kano City and heavily guarded by armed soldiers, policemen and the NSCDC personnel.

On the other hand, the reinstated Emir Sanusi is consolidating his stay and powers at the Kano Emir’s palace, conducting council sittings and receiving homage from district heads, other traditional rulers in the Emirate and ordinary citizens.

Meanwhile, normalcy has fully returned to the city with people going about their businesses as if there is no royal tussle going on.
