Lampard Berates Chelsea Stars After FA Cup Defeat To Arsenal

BEVERLY HILLS, August 02, (THEWILL) – Chelsea FC manager, Frank Lampard has described his players’ approach to Saturday’s FA Cup final match between the Blues and Arsenal FC as “complacent”. The Gunners beat the Blues by 2-1 at the Wembley Stadium to win a record 14th FA Cup.

THEWILL reports that Chelsea scored first from a Christian Pulisic’s early goal giving them the lead before a double from Arsenal striker and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turned the game around.

Speaking to BBC Sports after the match, Lampard said he was not happy with the manner his players approached the game.

He said: “We got complacent, took time on the ball like it was a stroll. We didn’t play well enough to win a final. A lot of today is on us.

“We started well for 10-15 minutes and we can only blame ourselves from that point.

“A final can never be a stroll and we allowed them back into the game. We were slow, we played back on ourselves, invited pressure.

“At the start of any new partnership it is important to show maximum respect and we have done that by concentrating on the club’s core identity. What you have is a clean, strong design, which any fan would immediately know belongs to Liverpool.”
