February 21, (THEWILL) – Nwankwo Kanu, Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha, and Daniel Amokachi are scheduled to play in a friendly match in Senegal on Tuesday to celebrate the opening of the country’s big stadium, the Stade Du Senegal.
During the official opening gala of the newly constructed sporting facility, these Nigerian football icons will be joined by a group of African football superstars, who together, will face a collection of Senegalese legends.
Former Togolese talents Emmanuel Adebayor and Kossi Agassa are among the African legends who are expected to appear. Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Eboue, Alain Gouamene, and Yaya Toure will make up the Ivorian players in the lineup. Anthony Baffoe, Samuel Osei Kuffour, and Asamoah Gyan are among the Ghanaian players that will feature.
Geremi Njitap and Patrick Mboma will join Samuel Eto’o as part of a Cameroonian trio. Aristide Bance, Kalusha Bwalya, Wael Goma, Titi Camara, Lucas Radebe, Mustapha Hadji, and Jonathan Patriopa are among the other African football legends on the list.
The new stadium, dubbed the Diamniadio Olympic Stadium or the Stade Du Senegal by some, is a 238-million-euro faculty located in Diamniadio, Dakar, Senegal. It is intended as a multi-purpose stadium that can host football, rugby, and athletics events.
With a seating capacity of 50,000, it assumes the status of Senegal’s national stadium for the Teranga Lions, the national football team. During the ceremony, it is expected to be named after the country’s former President Abdoulaye Wade, according to sources.
President Paul Kagame of Rwanda is in town as the event’s special guest of honour. It is unclear whether visiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be involved.
