September 20, (THEWILL) – The ancient city of Kano remains calm Wednesday, following the Tribunal judgement declaring the immediate-past Deputy Governor of the State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the APC, as the winner of the March 2023 governorship election in the State.

The State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting at the Miller Road High Court declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna as the rightful winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship poll.

Delivering its judgement via Zoom, the three-member tribunal chaired by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a fresh Certificate of Return to Nasir Yusuf Gawuna of the APC.

The Tribunal deducted 165,663 votes from Governor Yusuf’s total as invalid votes, stating that the ballot papers were not stamped or signed and therefore declared them invalid.

Part of the reasons for Governor Yusuf’s sack also was that his name was not in the NNPP register submitted to INEC and the issue of over-voting, among others.

Security agencies are fully on ground to avert any possible crisis as a result of the tribunal judgement.

Meanwhile, APC supporters in the state are celebrating the judgement with special prayers thanking God for the victory.
