September 24, (THEWILL) – Sweden and Denmark have announced their intention to jointly bid for hosting the 2029 Women’s European Championship. The Football Federations of both countries informed UEFA of their plans on Tuesday, aiming to organise “the biggest ever Women’s European Championship”.

The Swedish Football Association (SvFF) and Danish Football Association (DBU) stated their vision is to achieve the highest attendance figures in the tournament’s history. Fredrik Reinfeldt, President of SvFF, emphasised the importance of hosting such events to inspire more girls to take up football.

Preparations for the bid are already underway, with both federations engaging in dialogues with potential host cities. This joint Scandinavian bid faces competition from Germany and Portugal, who have also expressed interest in hosting the 2029 tournament.

Denmark previously hosted the Women’s Euros in 1991, while Sweden has done so twice – jointly with Norway in 1997 and solo in 2013. UEFA is set to announce the successful candidate for the 2029 championship in December 2025.

The next Women’s European Championship, scheduled for 2025, will take place in Switzerland. This upcoming event will serve as a precursor to the 2029 tournament, which Sweden and Denmark hope to bring to Scandinavia.
