November 13, (THEWILL) – Australian singer, songwriter, dancer, actor and television presenter, notable for being a finalist on the third season of The ‘X Factor’ Australia in 2011, John Patrick Ruffo, has passed away at the age of 35, after a battle with brain cancer.
Ruffo was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and had been actively raising awareness about the disease since then, according to an outlet. The actor also played a significant role in fundraising efforts.
His family shared on Instagram that he passed away on Friday, surrounded by loved ones.
The statement said, “It is with a heavy heart that today we had to farewell our beloved Johnny,” the statement read.
“Surrounded by his partner Tahnee and family, Johnny went peacefully with the support of some incredible nurses and doctors.
“He was a very talented, charming and sometimes cheeky boy. Johnny was very determined and had a strong will. He battled all the way to the end and fought as hard as he could. Such a beautiful soul with so much more to give.
“We all love you Johnny and will remember you for all the joy you brought to our lives. Rest easy.”
Ruffo underwent a surgery three years ago to remove a tumour, but the cancer returned three years later. He revealed last year that his diagnosis was terminal.
Ruffo inked a deal with Sony Music and landed the role of Chris Harrington, the eldest son in an affluent family, in the soap opera ‘Home and Away’ in 2013, engaging in various romances with women in Summer Bay and his compelling performance earned him a nomination for the most popular new talent at the 2014 Logie Awards.
